I know that springtime brings visions of renewal and the hot summer ahead, and I think that I am caught up in the fever (thankfully!). It seems that each spring brings a better mood in general to the people around me. People are in a generous spirit, whether on the road or in stores I visit. I see friendly waves from people actually letting me take the right of way at stop signs! Wow! It is a really nice thing to experience, especially when considering the rush that everyone seems to always be in. So, the natural question to ask is why? Could it be the warmer weather? The newly budding trees? Or is it the impending free health care?? (Probably not, considering what I have been hearing!) I tend to side with nature in this case. The beauty of the outdoor world, one that we so often forget about in our technological age, still works its magic on us, allowing us access to the annual renewal of nature. But I personally think that most people do not realize what is happening. While spending countless hours watching TV, texting, and cruising favorite websites, nature is continuing out there (bom bom). But when I step outside into my small but highly appreciated backyard, I notice that I tend to take a deep breath and just enjoy that I have sight of trees and flowers and red ants (very annoying, but still nature!).
In a world where sometimes the impulse is to go into "underdeveloped land" and mow down all the trees in the name of progress, changes come in all forms. Lest we forget that trees help to clean water that people eventually drink! When you turn on the faucet, you can thank a tree for helping to clean your water of toxins. Unfortunately, I do see areas of Pensacola where trees are few and far between, and I think that many communities around the world are the same way. So I hope that if you are reading this blog, you will take time as Earth Day approaches to enjoy nature in some way, even if it is just taking a few moments outdoors to enjoy the song of a bird. Appreciate the good mood that springtime can impart to you. Hey, you could even plant a tree on your property if you are so inclined!
